As I sat at a dinner table the other day next to one friend and saying goodbye to another as she jets off on a new adventure I realised how lucky I am to have these girls in my life. Not only this but I realised how lucky we all are to have gone through shit in the past as pathetic teenage girls and came out the other side best of friends for life.
All girls have arguments with their friends and for some of my friendships that has ended them. For others it has meant not talking to each other for prolonged periods of time and others it has made our friendship so much stronger.
I still remember the day I decided to grow up and ask my best friend from high school if she wanted to talk. She responded saying she needed to think about it and rightly so. However, once the time came and we finally caught up it wasn’t awkward at all. It was like we had never stopped talking and now my best memories this year are because I grew up and we rekindled our friendship.
Now I’m trying to think of what to say at her 21st and as much as bringing up old memories is amazing I really really regret the time we weren’t hanging out and talking. I wish I had reached out before we stopped talking and grew up then but instead there is a gap in our ‘friendship timeline’. A gap that I have learnt now is so so valuable.
I am sorry I didn’t reach out sooner and I hope people reading this don’t make the same mistakes.
Much love, Cait xx
